It's official: presenting an attestation signed by your doctor will become mandatory to obtain finasteride from pharmacies starting April 16, 2026.
Finasteride subject to new requirements
In France, a new measure will regulate the dispensing of finasteride 1 mg (primarily prescribed for hair loss).
From April 16, 2026, a prescription will no longer be enough:
👉 the pharmacist will also need to receive an annual information certificate, signed by both the patient and the prescribing doctor.
This decision follows recommendations from the National Agency for Medicines and Health Products Safety (ANSM).
When will this start?
Implementation will take place in two stages:

April 16, 2026: mandatory for any new treatment initiation

June 16, 2026: also mandatory for patients already on treatment
This allows concerned patients time to consult their doctor and obtain the required document.
Why this attestation?
Finasteride 1 mg is effective against androgenetic alopecia, but it is associated with certain potential side effects, including:
